Sokka Costume | The Last Airbender Costumes

Anyone familiar with the Avatar: The Last Airbender television show knows the character Sokka of the Water Tribe. Over the course of the series, Sokka transformed from wisecracking boy to a confident leader and all around impressive young man. In short, the goofy boy fishing in the first episode of the series is far removed from the young man standing with Aang at the culmination of the story. Of course, Sokka is not without his challenges. He is placed in the somewhat difficult position of being the only member of the core characters without the ability to Bend an element. Katara, Aan, Toph, and even Zuko all have special abilities, which actually compliments each of their personalities, whereas, Sokka is somewhat left out among his friends. However, rather than shrink beneath this difficulty, the result is a person who tries harder and never quits.Sokka was many times the character that kept the group together. His quick wit and ability to adapt is as important to his character as his inert sense of self-confidence and his trust or distrust of others. Sokka is the ultimate relatable character for men and boys of all ages because of the typical difficulties he faced and ultimately overcame. Having his father leave for battle and losing the first girl he loved were difficult for Sokka, but were all integral parts of developing the character. When he finds the sword master he ultimately learns from, Sokka still maintains a sense of honor when he confesses he is from the Water Tribe. In performing this confession, he refuses to accept being something he is not. The type of loyalty that he displays on countless occasions reveals the true depth of the character.

It is also important to not lose track of the fact that he in an entertaining guy as well. Sokka is as well known for his quips and one-liners as he is for his boomerang. Just the dialogue between him and the other characters, particularly the female ones, prove how funny he can be. Plus, the relationship he shares with Katara emphasizes the importance of family. However, the journey that Sokka completes is one of self-discovery, not destiny. While Aang is destined to become the Avatar, and even Katara seemed destined be close to Aang, Sokka chose his path. He made conscious decisions along the way. While a weaker character would have strayed from the path, Sokka stayed the course and remained true to his friends, and he never let them down.
